Tattoo Flash

The art of tattoo has gained a raging popularity in the last couple of decades but tattoo is actually as old as civilization itself. Prehistoric mummies have been discovered with their decorations still intact. I have designed a number of pieces of flash. The work that I have designed for myself is a work in progress that has now stretched out over a decade. Several different tattoo artists, whom I chose for very specific reasons have actually applied the ink, but I did all the original colored designs on paper. In some cases the artists themselves had some fun with the placement of certain elements of the finished design. In the case of my own tattoos, I believe that they emerged from the inside out, rather than simply being put on my skin. I feel that the designs have always been there waiting to emerge. The process is very exciting to me and I enjoy looking at their living beauty everyday.
